A local development finance organisation working with banks and microfinance institutions to finance smallholder farmers and agribusinesses invites interested candidates to apply for a Projects Officer opportunity that has risen within the Organization. The main focus of the Projects Officer will be to lead and coordinate the organisation's projects; communicate and manage the relationship with key stakeholders; and interface with a range of actors to raise the awareness and profile of the organisation. The incumbent will be involved in the development and advancement of relevant strategies in engaging with a wide spectrum of partners.

The position will also assist in resource mobilisation for projects funding and technical assistance support whilst cultivating relationships with a wide range of constituencies, with the goal of strengthening the organisation's resource mobilisation base. Specifically, the Projects Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Designing and development of proposals for projects;
  • Ensure that the project(s) deliverables are on time, within budget and at the required level of quality;
  • Coordinating the preparation of the Operational Plan;
  • Project performance Plan Reports;
  • Project Budget Justification and other project reporting requirements to ensure that timely and accurate information is provided to Management;
  • Create a detailed work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to successfully complete the identified projects;
  • Develop a schedule for project completion that effectively allocates budgeted resources to the activities;
  • Evaluate the outcomes of the project(s) as established during the planning phase;
  • Review the project schedule with management and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise the schedule as required;
  • Determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at its completion;
  • Coordinate responses to unsolicited proposals and assistance requests;
  • Provide effective and efficient support in all aspects of resource mobilisation; Identify and develop opportunities for resource mobilisation and advise management on appropriate strategies and approaches to seize them;
  • Contribute to the development of corporate policies and procedures for resource mobilisation, including through strategic partners;
  • Strategic advocacy and partnership development

Qualifications & experience

  • A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, Social Science or equivalent is required;
  • Advanced (Masters) University degree in Agricultural Economics would be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in program-related work, including analysing problems; proposal writing; working with teams to develop solutions; writing analytic reports and using empirical data to improve the effectiveness of the work product is required;
  • Incumbent must have the ability to write proposals, analyse programming issues and to develop a way to solve them;
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills, including an ability to work as a member of a team, build consensus, provide leadership and effectively coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in a multi-cultural setting.
  • The ideal candidate for this position must have some proven development finance & agriculture track record with practical knowledge of cross cutting issues such as gender, human rights, green growth and social responsibility;
  • Proven track record of effective resource mobilisation; Both private sector and field experience in the related field is a plus.
