4 x Researcher – Judicial Service Commission

Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the positions of RESEARCHER which have arisen within the Judicial Service Commission. The Commission is a dynamic organization that comprises competent and professional staff.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Researcher will assist the Head of Judicial Training Institute of Zimbabwe (JTIZ) to:

• Conduct research on legal issues relating to the Judicial Service Commission’s operations.
• Prepare written opinions, working papers and reports on legal issues of interest to the Judicial Service Commission
• Undertake scholarly review of legal literature, documents, instruments and other material legal research on specific issues and render advice accordingly
• Draft legal documents such as contracts. agreements, opinions and briefs and prepare memoranda, letters and other documents as may be required
• Write legal briefs that present arguments based on research findings
• Represent the department on committee meetings, conferences and other workshops
• Create and maintain a database of legal research material for use by judicial officers and other members of the Judicial Service Commission
• Prepare and produce compendia of various training programmes undertaken by the Judicial Training Institute of Zimbabwe
• Undertake baseline studies to evaluate the performance of members of the Judicial Service Commission and come up with training needs
• Execute the Annual Wok Plan of the Judicial Training Institute of Zimbabwe
• Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Judicial Training Institute Zimbabwe

COMPETENCE AND SKILLS FOR POST:

The person must possess:

• A law degree of a good Class preferably 2.1 or better from recognized University
• At least 2 years proven experience in the legal research
• Post graduate qualifications will be an added advantage
• Proficiency in the use of computers:
• Good command of written and spoken English.
