Location: Harare
An opportunity has arisen within a local human rights NGO working nationally to enhance access to justice and promote human rights. Applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons are invited for the post of Advocacy and Communications Officer based in Harare.
Position summary
The Advocacy and Communications Officer will be responsible for implementing the communications and advocacy strategy. The candidate must be a good team player who is capable of working well with the organisation’s stakeholders. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. The incumbent will be reporting to the Advocacy, Communications and Research Coordinator.
Job description
The Advocacy and Communications Officer will be expected to:
- Develop and implement the communications strategy;
- Implement the advocacy strategy working with the Advocacy, Communications and Research Coordinator;
- Organize and conduct policy dialogues including meetings with parliamentary portfolio committees;
- Liaise with Media on behalf of the organization identifying opportunities for media advocacy, engage with the media for awareness raising and advocacy;
- Produce press statements, releases, supplements and newsletters for the organization;
- Produce promotional material for visibility and awareness raising;
- Compiles and edits articles for social media and website;
- Prepare policy briefs and research paper, represents the organization at press conferences and advocacy platforms.
Qualifications and Experience
The Advocacy and Communications Officer must have:
- A degree in Journalism or Media or LLBS with media / journalism background;
- Masters in Law / Masters in journalism or media;
- 4 years’ experience working as an Advocacy and Communications Officer in an NGO environment;
- Clean class 4 driver’s license essential;
- Willing to travel regularly within Zimbabwe;
- Language skills in Shona and Ndebele are an added advantage.
