About the role

Christian Aid is bidding to run a large donor funded programme in Zimbabwe, which aims to help establish norms of participation, accountability and respect for human rights.

This Head of Programmes will provide programmatic leadership. The postholder’s role will include managing and supporting a team with technical input, and ensuring effective management and delivery of the programme and appropriate support for partners. The Head of Programmes will provide substantial programmatic guidance and oversight to the thematic programme staff and consultants delivering the programme interventions. Key deliverables include ensuring quality programme and budget management, agreeing a results framework (with the Monitoring and Evaluation lead) and ensuring demonstrable results and a clear rationale behind the programme strategy and specific programme interventions. The postholder will provide representation on programme issues where appropriate, and engage and network with relevant actors externally and internally. Additionally the postholder will deputise for the Team Leader as required.

The appointment will be for five years, conditional on Christian Aid securing the donor contract, and on donor approval of the appointee.

About you

The successful applicant will have significant experience in a field-based management position for a complex, multi-sectoral, international development donor-funded programme, and a proven track record in developing and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including government agencies.

They will have excellent understanding of and experience working in Zimbabwe and technical expertise in programme areas including citizen access to documentation, media freedom, tackling illicit financial flows, and elections processes. They will need to have an adaptable approach to programme delivery and to working with others, and extensive experience in Monitoring and Evaluation and knowledge management.
