Job Description

A Learner Guide is responsible for providing guided tours and ensuring an exceptional experience for clients. They must possess in-depth knowledge of the flora and fauna of the area, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and educate participants. The Learner Guide must be enthusiastic, friendly, and proactive in delivering the highest level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting guided tours by providing informative and engaging commentary about the wildlife and the flora.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all guests during the guided tours.
  • Answer guests’ questions and provide accurate and detailed explanations about animals, birds and plants during the guided tours and also share interesting facts, anecdotes, and stories related to the wildlife and nature.
  • Interacting with individuals or groups, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Developing personalized connections with guests, catering to their specific interests.
  • Providing exceptional customer service to the guests during their camp stays.
  • Handling emergencies and unexpected situations with composure and efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Holder of a Learners Guiding License.
  • Holder of a Canoe License.
  • Holder of a class 4 driver’s license and defensive driving course.
  • A minimum of 5 (five) years’ experience in the guiding field.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is required, with additional outdoor/remote area certifications being advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the wildlife and flora.
  • Excellent verbal communication and storytelling skills. Ability to engage and captivate diverse audiences, adjusting communication style as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and establish connections with participants.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations, emergencies, and difficult participants with calmness and professionalism.
  • Proficient in using technology, such as navigation devices or audio systems, during tours.
  • Physical Requirements- should be physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and in various weather conditions.
