Job Description

Sitters4U.co.za has a new Long Term PremiumCARE position available for a highly experienced and educated, preferably eloquently bilingual Afrikaans | English speaker (English – Afrikaans is also fine as both are fairly fluent) with a preferably ECD Practitioner/professional nanny/ Montessori/ teaching background to fulfill a live-in professional au pair role in Hillside, Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Zimbabwe for the care and nurturing of 1 child, currently aged 7 years old.

Mom is a director on 13 boards which is very demanding, and dad is a systems architect for a multinational car manufacturer spending a week a month minimum away and travelling for work, but otherwise working from home and so highly competent support is required. The boy is active and enjoys some extra mural activities, like rugby tots, play ball, swimming in summer. He is inquisitive and enjoys maths as one of his current favourite subjects.

Duties: Care of 1 child, aged 7 years old
Start Date: 1 August – 1 September 2023
Times: The child is in a Cambridge system school and the school has 3 months of school, 1 month off, 3 months of school, 1 month off etc.

The successful candidate will assist in providing service:

When the child is at school (3 months), working hours will be:

• Monday to Friday: 12h00 – 17h30
• Sunday: 10h00 – 13h00

When the child is not school (1 month) working hours will be:

• Monday to Friday: 08h00 – 17h30
• Sunday: 10h00 – 13h00

Please note you may be asked to babysit or help out at times other than above, for which the family will provide time off or pay these hours as overtime.

The family is seeking a person who is competent to provide:

• Preparation of snacks, lunch or dinner.
• Teach personal hygiene and cleanliness.
• Bathing of / Supervising Bath/ Shower Time
• Liaison with teachers, teachers meeting attendance, schedule planning etc (please note mom will always be involved for school meetings with the au pair)
• Assisting with homework, projects, research and teaching the child to study, preparing for exams.
• Providing emotional support and guidance.
• Assisting the child/children to clean up their rooms, study areas and cleaning up/washing dishes after meals.
• Keeping records of the days activities, observing and monitoring a child’s development
• Creation, management and implementation of a child’s schedule
• Planning age appropriate, stimulating recreational activities, eating times etc.
• Setting boundaries and providing mature guidance.
• Create fun learning opportunities
• Formal lesson planning
• The successful incumbent will need to be able to set boundaries and provide constant guidance, this role is for someone who truly enjoys the company of little people.
• Applicants should be organised and should not become easily stressed, or have the emotional maturity to handle things when parents need to be busy

Notes:

• Knowledge of autism is beneficial as dad has Asperger’s and the son is showing some signs but he is mainstreamed and if you didn’t know you wouldn’t as he is highly functioning.
• It is important for the family that the person understands that their role is to contribute to the child’s overall development and to insure that the time mom and dad have with their child is quality time.

Salary Offer:

The amount paid per month is equalized out and is based on the averaged hours per year divided by 12 months, and is negotiable up to a maximum of R 30 000 per month dependent on experience and education level (R 160 – R 190 per hour).

• Meals are included as mom and dad love cooking – if you have special requirements, you can of course cook for yourself, but this would be for your bill.
• The family goes horse riding on Saturdays and if you are a horse riding enthusiast, you are welcome to join on these rides.
• All transfers, flights etc related to moving will be covered by the client.
