Vacancy Manager: Managing Director and CEO
Purpose of the job
The purpose of the Managing Director role is to provide strategic leadership and direction, this includes identifying growth opportunities and setting and achieving performance targets. The Managing Director oversees all aspects of the business, including operations, financial performance, and regulatory compliance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Development and implementation of the overall portfolio asset allocation strategy
- In close consultation with key internal stakeholders, develop the investment philosophy, process, and asset allocation strategy and ensure alignment with group and business strategy and industry best practice
- Lead the execution of asset allocation decisions including all trading activities, providing ongoing management and guidance to in-country asset management teams and central support team on the end-to-end implementation of asset management strategy in-country
- Update strategy in line with changing business issues and priorities, market movements, client behaviour, regulatory changes, industry trends and market best practice; motivate for approval with the board as and when changes are made
- Chair the internal Investment Committee
- Participate in Board decisions as a Director of the company
- Advise the Board on all investment portfolio related matters and any other matters affecting the company.
Budget management
- Set the revenue and cost budget
- Cascade the revenue budget to direct reports and drive the achievement thereof
- Manage the balance sheet and make daily cashflow decisions.
Growth of funds under management and Business Development
- Track the impact of products and continually review, improve, and innovate to keep them relevant and competitive
- Maintain close oversight of client needs, market movement, and competitor activity.
- Create, execute, and track client management strategy
- Build and maintain new client relationships and seek new opportunities for growth.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, transparency, and adherence to policies.
- Implement and maintain robust risk management frameworks to minimize financial and operational risks.
- Drive key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor operational success.
Governance, risk, and compliance
- Build and maintain relationships with the regulators and ensure adherence to relevant governance structures
- Display awareness of risk/reward frameworks and methodologies and the bank’s risk appetite in terms of knowing what the bank will accept
- Ensure compliance with risk mandates for existing and new products
- Ensure pricing remains profitable and competitive
- Ensure all compliance documentation and processes (e.g. KYC) are followed to the letter.
Stakeholder engagement
- Set the tone for the rules of engagement, for example, in terms of role definitions with clients, regulators and other external stakeholders
- Engage with clients to understands their asset management needs and to resolve ongoing issues
- Engage with regulators to understand what can and cannot be done in different markets, to identify potential areas of innovation and to ensure adherence to in-country regulatory parameters
- Participate in external forums to stay abreast of professional developments and external best practice
- Stay abreast of current and upcoming regulatory changes to be able to manage the impacts thereof
Staff Management and Development
- Define the targets and responsibilities of subordinates and manage and implement their performance contracts.
- Maintain and foster a focused, top-class work culture for all employees.
- Identify and develop succession planning at all levels in the management hierarchy and include cross training as part of a defined staff development plan.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant Business Degree
- MBA, MSc, or equivalent would be an added advantage
- A minimum of 10 years of Investment Management experience, including 5+ years in senior management
- A history of managing large-scale portfolios, with a proven ability to generate returns while managing risk, is key.
- A positive track record in asset allocation, investment performance, and meeting client objectives is crucial.
