Main job Purpose

To manage the modification and documentation of medical codes and rules for the system’s project

The Role

• Accurate documentation of medical coding rules and application to local environment.
• Training of in-house personnel on medical coding.
• Testing of tariffs and rule implementation.
• Liaising with physicians and other parties to clarify information.
• Examining documents for missing information.
• Assigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA codes.
• Assigning APC and DRG codes.
• Informing Head of Division of issues with equipment and computer program.
• Ensuring compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.

The Person

• Nursing degree
• Qualification in health administration is an added advantage.
• Experience in CPT , ICD10 – CM, PCS, Diagnostic Related Groups
• 2+ years of work experience as a medical coder with experience in the following areas:
• Extracting relevant information from patient records.
• Liaising with physicians and other parties to clarify information.
• Examining documents for missing information.
• Assigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA codes.
• Assigning APC and DRG codes.
• Performing chart audits.
• Advising and training physicians and staff on medical coding.
• Informing management of issues with equipment and computer program.
• Ensuring compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.
• American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification is an added advantage.
• Proficient computer skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong people skills.
• Attention to detail
• Outstanding organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
