Job Summary
As Operations Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of technical and service-oriented experts in supporting all our local mining customers (currently in Platinum, Gold, and Coal operations) by actively supporting all Sandvik Machines & Equipment collaborating with the team to improve availability and performance with a focus on Reliability centred maintenance practices.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the following strategic KPI’s.
- Driving sales, profitability, and business growth
- Customer relations.
- Key account management.
- Competency development and talent management
- Driving and creating an environment which supports high employee engagement.
In this position you will report to the Territory Manager & MD and the position is based in Harare, Zimbabwe with frequent travel to various customer sites dotted across the country.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensuring implementation and adherence to all policies & procedures especially the SHEQ policies.
- Plan, direct, and monitor all operational activities at customer sites in order to maximize the use of the organization’s resources and meet set production / output targets in line with specific parameters related to volumes, cost, wastage targets, and quality standards.
- Managing all maintenance contracts and related operations in line with strategic business needs.
- Ability to challenge & navigate difficult site conditions and plan to achieve operational performance in an adverse VUCA business environment.
- Continuously improve and update personal knowledge with respect to product development and technical innovation.
- Ensure that all machinery and equipment is maintained in a safe operating condition.
- Ensure systems of work, which encompass people Safety and Environmental diligence, are implemented using all relevant Sandvik and / or Client Procedures, Work Instructions and Risk Assessment methods as appropriate.
- Ensuring Legal Compliances as per all Mining & Engineering statutory provisions including liaison with regulatory authorities and govt. etc for obtaining necessary permits & clearances.
- Ensures that employees receive adequate instruction, training, and supervision to enable them to work free of unnecessary risk.
- Strategically deal with issues related to machine / equipment warranty failure, repeated failure, peculiar failure, etc.
- Responsible for the development of a yearly budget, ongoing expense tracking and cost savings initiatives.
- Responsible for the competence development and staffing within the department.
- Responsible for overall machine / equipment performance, availabilities, parts consumption, oil usages etc.
- Responsible for spare parts estimation for customer stock considering machine condition, working environment, customer stock reorder levels, etc.
- Overseeing the inventory management function and liaison with order desk / parts department. and help customer in getting the spare parts.
- Cost reduction through optimization and streamlining operational process.
Your Character
- We are looking for someone with an Engineering Degree/Diploma combined with a solid background of machine and equipment maintenance in a mining environment for at least 10 years.
- Experience in working with operation and maintenance team for both underground and surface mining operations.
- Experience in working with various mining machines / equipment such as Continuous Miner, Rigs, LHD, Bolters, TMM’s etc.
- Servicing and overhauling of mining machines / equipment.
- Actively participate in achieving high level of productivity.
- Planning and scheduling of operation and Maintenance task.
- Site Management skill including Accounting, Reporting, Monitoring, Administration, Strategic decision making, CRM, conflict resolution & people management.
- Full physical & medical certificate to work in mining environment.
