Job Description

A great opportunity has become available for a qualified and competent person to fill SHEQ Officer position at Shamva Gold Mine.

Core Function of the Position

To ensure effective proactive management of all occupational safety, heath, environment and quality risks related to the Shamva Gold Mine processes and activities in line with SHEQ standards, legislative and best practice requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the Mining Management and Safety regulations, safety and occupational health standards are maintained.
  • To identify and provide relevant SHEQ interventions which will assist the organization to attain its objectives.
  • Conducting SHEQ training and awareness to employees and contractors
  • Providing oversight and monitoring contractors in the adherence of SHEQ standards and systems
  • Managing and controlling occupational health and hygiene risks, ensuring that medical surveillance and industrial hygiene programmes are implemented
  • Monitoring environmental aspects related to Mine activities, making sure that the Mine complies with applicable environmental legislation and requirements

Requirements

  • A degree in the field of Safety, Occupational Health / Hygiene and Environment
  • Possession of OSHEMAC or NEBOSH or equivalent certificate
  • Courses in SHEQ management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) would be advantageous
  • Minimum 6 years working experience in a similar position (preferably in an underground gold mine).
  • Computer literate (MS Power point, Word, Excel, Access and Projects)
  • Working knowledge of underground gold mining and SHEQ systems standards
  • Thorough knowledge and sound understanding of regulations related to mine safety, occupational health and environment
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, problem solving, facilitation and organising skills
